    5 Things to Do When Facing a New Beginning 

    Spring is the perfect time for a new beginning. As the weather gets warmer and the plants begin growing again, you start to feel less sluggish and more optimistic. The spring is a time to embrace renewal and invite change into your life, big or small.

    What is a new beginning?

    A new beginning is often something that allows you to start over with a blank slate. It can be something as minor as the start of a new season & picking up a new hobby, or as major as moving to a new city & changing your relationship status.

    Sometimes we actively choose to embark on a new beginning, while other times circumstances push us into that new beginning. Starting fresh can happen unexpectedly, but it’s important to embrace the changes, even if they may be scary to navigate. 

    Why can new beginnings be a good thing?

    A new beginning can give you the opportunity to start over with a fresh mindset and perspective. It can help you reset, can reduce burnout, and can even lessen feelings of depression. 

    It’s an opportunity for you to do things differently and put your best foot forward. You can move through a new beginning unencumbered by your past, and can embrace this fresh start and write your future as you go. New beginnings and experiences are so important for your well-being. 

    Whether you’re excited about entering a new beginning or feel a bit anxious, we encourage you to embrace the new journey and to prepare for it as best you can. Here are 5 things you should do when faced with a new beginning. 

    1. Enjoy each little milestone along the way

    Have you ever heard the quote: “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” by Ralph Waldo Emerson? Keep this idea in mind when starting a new beginning.

    Instead of focusing on the bigger picture or end goal, you need to appreciate each individual moment that leads you to the finish line. There’s beauty in the journey of a new beginning. Cherishing each small milestone along the way will help you make the most of your new beginning. 

    2. Embrace your failures and shortcomings

    No one is perfect, and things won’t always end up the way you hope. This isn’t a bad thing! We may tend to let our failures hold us back, but instead of letting your failures hold you back during this new beginning, find the joy in learning from them. Every step you take on this journey is necessary, even the ones that don’t work out.

    It’s important to constantly remind yourself that this is a new experience for you, and you’re not an expert. You’re doing your best during this new beginning, and that’s what matters. Don’t let any perceived shortcomings hold you back.

    3. Remember to take chances

    A new beginning is all about trying new things. Use this as an opportunity to try something you haven’t before, regardless of the risk. It’s a fresh start, so use this time to live your life without regretting the chances you take.

    Taking chances can be scary, but just remember that most of your fears are bigger in your mind than they are in reality. Don’t be afraid to take a risk here and there. You can do this!

    Dwelling on things that are out of your control hinders your progress. So, it’s important to go into a new beginning focusing mainly on the positive. Release what you can’t control and move through this new journey with no expectations and no worries.

    Good things tend to happen when you distance yourself from the negative. Don’t hold on to what hurts. Instead, make room for the things that feel right.

    5. Use this time to connect with yourself

    Often when we start a new beginning, we can feel a little lost or disconnected from ourselves. Prioritize strengthening the relationship you have with yourself as you enter this new journey. Staying in tune with your thoughts and feelings will make your new beginning just that much more meaningful.

    Find ways to connect with yourself, stay balanced, and frequently check in as you move through the new beginning. The more you understand about yourself, the easier it will be to navigate through this new beginning and make the most of it.
