Meet Celine Tadrissi, founder of Cela Beauty
Our February Loving Kindness box included an aromatic body lotion by Cela Beauty, and today we’re excited to introduce you to Celine Tadrissi – the founding visionary behind the company, and behind the luxurious Hammam Spa by Cela in Toronto.
What many people don’t know is that Cela Beauty – and Hammam Spa by Cela – are a family-owned business. Celine not only owns and runs the company with her husband but has also involved her 3 daughters from day one. Here’s what she had to say.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, and what inspired you to start Cela?
The story of Cela is unique in the sense that I initially had no intention of creating a product line. I was frustrated with not having the right products for a large number of treatments we do at the spa, along with hassles caused by importing products.
So I started researching raw ingredients from Canada that I could use for our treatments and ordering in bulk. This went on for a few years and we started playing with some bases and oils to create different creams and scrubs which clients loved. Eventually, I decided to work with a manufacturer to bring what I had started to a formal lab and production.
I am a 12th generation Canadian so part of the intention behind creating a branded product line was to highlight the amazing ingredients Canada had to offer in skincare and share the spa experiences which were the driving force behind all the products with people to use at home.
What does your typical day look like?
I am a morning person and I’m grateful for the routine that has become a habit for me to start my days on track!
I wake up between 5:30-6:00 am and start with some quiet time doing mediation or listing to an inspiring ted talk/podcast with lots of coffee😊 I then mix up my workouts between weight training/ cardio and yoga but always spend 30-60 min a day doing some sort of physical activity.
After my “me time” I get my daughters up and ready for school. Then I move onto getting ready myself – aka my skincare routine. Normally I start with a dry exfoliation or dry brush for my body, followed by a moisturizer.
I then head into one of my spa locations for the day and spend the first part going through numbers/accounts emails then move onto any meeting and current projects.
Then it’s family time. We always have dinner together as a family at the end of the day and will typically talk, go for a walk, look over homework, etc. I spend a good hour after 9 just relaxing and getting ready for bed. I often draw myself a bath, stretch, meditate or read. I try to be in bed by 10:30 I find as I get older proper sleep is key for me.
What is the most impactful piece of advice you’ve received?
Two key pieces of advice I always use and talk to my daughters about is to always do your best and to fight through the discomfort of working at things you are not strong at or have failed at.
I think it’s important to realize that most success stories always start with many failed attempts and if you really want to accomplish something it comes from hard work, not some innate ability or ‘luck’
How do you make space for your mental wellness?
Balance in my routine is important. I have realized over the years that it has allowed me to do my best to take care of my personal well-being, and has helped me in my family life, and career.
Please share something special about your business or the product/service you are currently launching
Cela was featured in Oprah Magazine in 2019. I am still not 100% sure on how their team got my products because I had no contact there. I had visited the Hurst media building last year to see a Vogue editor who used to be a client of Hammam when in Toronto and was using the Cela products. I left a bunch of products with her in the office, so I am not sure if they moved between media outlets or if it was a coincidence.
I am still in touch with their beauty team who have always offered great feedback and seem to love all of the Cela products. I know many brands fight over Oprah coverage so their feedback was such an encouraging milestone for me that I will always be grateful for.
My favorite product right now is the new launch of the Crème Violette which was just launched in December 2020. It has a similar rich hydrating base to my other cream with the addition of Lavender essential oil and Oatmeal to soothe the skin and relax the mind and body.
